Player evaluations
Player evaluations are an important part of building balanced, competitive teams while ensuring every athlete is placed in an environment where they can continue to grow and succeed.
Evaluations are coordinated by Canby Junior Baseball in partnership with the Canby High School baseball program. Players are evaluated by a team of experienced volunteers that may include former Canby Junior Baseball players, former board members, and Canby High School coaches at the Senior level. To maintain a fair and unbiased process, board members do not serve as evaluators unless absolutely necessary, and only at divisions where they do not have a player participating.
Following evaluations, the Canby Junior Baseball Board meets to organize the team formation process. While the board oversees the process, it is not involved in selecting players for individual teams. Team selection is the responsibility of the coaches. In divisions with multiple teams (often National & American Divisions), coaches participate in a player draft to create balanced rosters.
Our goal is to provide every player with the opportunity to develop, compete, and have a positive baseball experience while ensuring fairness throughout the evaluation and team formation process.

All players must be at evaluations. For questions, please contact board president Ryan Oliver.

Dress in baseball pants, shirt, cleats (no metal cleats) or tennis/turf shoes, water bottle, hat. Please bring your glove, bat and helmet if you have them. Be prepared for weather!

Arrive 45 minutes early to your appropriate evaluation time to choose your jersey size, hat size and preferred player number. Players will be given an evaluation bib number to affix to their clothing and a photo may be taken to help identify them.

We allow coaches that have been through the coaching interviews to be on the field during player evaluations. Parents and family members need to remain in the bleachers or behind the fences during evaluations. Due to space, no spectators allowed at the hitting barn during evaluations.

Evaluations are broken down into five main toolsets within baseball skills - Hitting, fly balls, infield, pitching, running. While you’re player may not be a pitcher, we are still evaluating his throwing mechanics for other positions as well.

All evaluators are either former players, former board members or high school coaches (Senior Level). Board members do not evaluate unless absolutely necessary and only at levels where they do not have kids playing.

Specific rankings from evaluations will not be shared. Team placement information will be shared within 2 weeks or once coaches have been found to form teams.
Starting in 2027 all rosters will be posted to the web site following team formation pending coaches for each level and division.
